When the pandemic started over 2 years go, many speech-language pathologists (SLP) were forced to start seeing students/clients online. However, I was on maternity leave back then and I happily stayed at home, relieved to not have to deal with this crazy thing called teletherapy. I've had years of experience working in the schools doing in-person speech and I thought "How can one possibly provide quality speech therapy online?"
When I worked in the schools, I came across many students who have worked with various SLPs on the same speech sound for several years (you know, like that stubborn R sound).
Enter Keystone Speech Therapy LLC, currently an online private practice.
We opened our business January of this year and for the past several months, I have been doing a lot of learning... making some mistakes, but doing a lot of learning. A challenge about teletherapy is the fact that some families aren't convinced that it can be an effective means to get their needs met. And to be honest, I questioned the same thing at first. But I can now say that I have had clients that have shown great progress in a short amount of time with online speech therapy!
I'm not saying that the key to fast progress in speech is teletherapy. I'm simply saying that it is a service delivery model that one should not completely write off. I gave quality services in-person for years and now I can give quality service online. So yes, teletherapy can work! Try it out! You just might be surprised.
